About Ben

Ben L Maden is a playwright, screenwriter, author and film critic.
Having started out as an actor, Ben has been writing professionally from the age of fourteen when his first play, Inspector Jenkins: Murder at the Mansion, was staged to a sold-out audience across two nights.
Soon after this Ben and three others co-founded a Young Writers group for the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal (Cumbria, UK). Together Ben and his fellow writers wrote a moving play called Mockingbird. This drama, told in a reverse-timeline order, explained why a coma-bound woman found herself alone at the end of her life. The play was another success and even gained coverage in the local press.
Since Mockingbird, Ben has gone on to write other successful theatre shows such as A Class of their Own (a period drama focusing on the romance between a stately upper-class man and his lover, a lower-class housekeep), Once Upon A Very Odd Time (A sell out pantomime which saw all the legendary females from fairy-tales team up to save their husbands) and the competition-winning The In Crowd which went on to tour the North-West of England.

Ben also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Screenwriting & Film studies from Staffordshire University. He has completed a number of feature-length screenplays and TV pilots that he hopes to produce in the near future. In addition to this, he is also working on his debut novels, one aimed at young teens and the other for adults.
In 2013 Ben was also one of the many Kickstarter backers who contributed to the 2014 crowd-funded Veronica Mars movie (a continuation of the 2004-2007 TV series of the same name). He also met the cast at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con and visited the set in Los Angeles.
Ben can also be found on Youtube, where he hosts Entertainment Zone, a web-show that has all the latest movie news and reviews.

Over the years Ben has also met numerous celebrities including Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherock), David Tennant (Doctor Who), J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars) and Stan Lee (Marvel Comics legend).
Whilst currently living in the Lake District, Ben likes to travel a lot especially choosing to spend a lot of time in London. In his free time (when he's not busy writing) Ben likes to spend time with friends and family, catch up on the latest gripping movies and TV shows and get stuck in to a good book/comic/graphic novel.
Ben is currently a freelance writer (although currently seeking representation) and will gladly take on commissions from theatre groups, TV production companies, etc. Use the contact page to explain what kind of thing you'd like Ben to write for you (all genres accepted) and he'll be in touch to negotiate the details.
